Mark Rickaby, director of South West accountancy firm Sunflower Accounts Ltd, took to the icy waters off the coast of the UK and raised £600 for NASS.
Since being diagnosed in 2007, Mark was determined to maintain a healthy diet and fitness regime to manage the pain caused by AS and to prevent a worsening of the symptoms. In his professional life as co-founder of Sunflower Accounts with his wife Steph, they've pledged to raise funds for NASS during 2015.
Mark's first fundraising effort was to take part in the Near-Water Inn to Inn Event 2.7km open water sea swim in Cornwall on Saturday June 20. On the day, swimmers entered the water in the early morning and swam from the Old Quay Inn at Devoran to the Pandora Inn at Mylor.
Mark aimed to raise £250. With the support of friends, family and members of the local business community, he more than doubled his target.
Mark said: "I'm overwhelmed by the support shown to me in this very personal challenge I set myself. Money is still coming in. To date, I've raised more than £600 which is just amazing. I'd like to thank everyone who has made a contribution."

Exercise is the single most important thing a person with AS can do to help themselves, while painkilling and anti-inflammatory medication will help to reduce pain and improve sleep and well being. Visit our Swimming with AS pages for more information on how taking the plunge can help your AS.
